About Us

Avalon Court Residential Home in Butleigh, near Glastonbury, offers residents a caring, social, friendly environment to live in and is registered to provide care and accommodation for up to 16 older people.

We also offer day care, respite and convalescent care that focuses on the individual needs and wants of all our residents. We strive to help our people maintain their hobbies and interests as much as possible.  With a charming conservatory and raised gardens, there are plenty of opportunities to keep busy. Our large lounge is often the venue for live music and craft activities and is a vibrant place to learn a new skill or revisit a past hobby.

Our fully trained staff care for residents in every sense of the word, both physically and mentally, whilst preserving their dignity and independence. Trained nurses are always on call to support our care staff and a doctor can be summoned 24 hours a day if required.

We have regular visits from the hairdresser and barber, clergy, and health professionals such as opticians, dentists, chiropodists and podiatrists to make life as stress-free as possible for you.

The accommodation is made up of 16 single rooms, is centrally heated, each with a wash-hand basin and six with en-suite facilities. Residents are encouraged to bring their own furniture if they wish and to make their space their own. All rooms have an emergency call system, attended by 24 hour waking staff.

Meals are home-cooked and prepared in the kitchen using fresh meat, vegetables, fruit and locally sourced produce whenever possible. The menu is varied, and individual preferences and special dietary needs can be catered for.

Kate Wilson

Registered Manager

I have 17 years of experience working in the care sector all of which has been with this employer.

The first six of these years had been specialising in Dementia Care at our sister home Beech Tree House where I started as a care assistant and worked my way through my NVQ levels 2 and 3 and became Deputy Manager in 2006.

I started my journey at Avalon Court when I transferred in 2008 as the Deputy Manager before becoming Registered Manager in 2015.

I achieved the level 5 Diploma in Leadership in Health and Social Care in 2017.

My origin as a care assistant drives my passion and success rate in identifying people who can be successful in this industry. I always strive to explore all avenues and innovative ideas to ensure that the staff at Avalon Court work to achieve to the highest standards possible.  This ensures the care that our residents receive is individually and collectively to the highest standard possible.

When I come to work at Avalon Court it is just like coming home, it always feels cosy with lots of friendly faces to greet me.

Managing a residential home isn’t always easy but it also brings plentiful rewards and being able to look after our residents and their families to the best of my ability is a privilege.

From the beginning, Alan and his team made Yvonne most welcome and helped us with regards to her settling in period. The home has a lovely atmosphere and the staff are all very caring and clearly know their residents very well. Yvonne always looks well cared for and her needs are catered for to a high standard. On visits, we are always given updates regarding Yvonne's health, activities and such like. Regular newsletters and pictures complement this and help put Bills mind at rest.
Alan and his staff are clearly passionate about their home and its residents and this comes across to us and is greatly reassuring.
We cannot thank them all enough for taking such good care of Yvonne.

DC - Relative
Friarn House Residential Home

My husband went there from the hospital and showed signs of improvement from the first day. He had more energy, was more alert and less confused.  He is very vulnerable emotionally and I was worried that he would feel lost and insecure away from home. To my great relief, he always looks very integrated and secure with every member of staff and the other residents.

The staff's cheerfulness and good humour is noteworthy in this difficult and often frustrating area of care.

Being a small home Beech Tree House has a family home feel to it - not at all like an institution. The lovely, mature garden is easily accessible from the house and is enclosed by an old stone wall so there is no risk of residents wandering off.

We would like to express our heartfelt thanks for the care you are giving my mother-in-law.  We have heard nothing but the highest praise for all the carers and workers at Frairn House and this sets our hearts at ease.
