Events & Activities
We aim to provide a busy activity schedule for those who want to participate and a range of activities to appeal to everyone who lives with us.
From painting to gardening, dominoes to cooking, our residents can choose whether to join in or not.
We organise both individual and group activities in communal areas or if preferred these can also be held in an individual's room.
Arts and Crafts
We believe that having a large range of arts and craft activities available to all our residents keeps the homes happy and vibrant.
Our residents and staff enjoy activities such as:
- Card Making
- Modelling clay
These activities help individuals express themselves in a creative way. We work on projects that stimulate imagination and memories which allows a sense of accomplishment and pride in the finished products and can often be found dotted around the home.
Art and craft activities have also been proven to improve stress-levels, memory and fine motor skills, making these a firm favourite with everyone.
Knit and Natter
Helping everyone continue to pursue old hobbies such as knitting is an important part of life with us and we encourage residents to form their own groups with like-minded people.
Our Knit and Natter sessions happen in all our homes with residents knitting or crocheting squares to make blankets either for themselves or for the local children's wards.
These sessions are often informal and allow residents to relax and chat as they would have done in their own homes with friends.
Cooking is often an important part of a persons life and one of the things they miss most when they come to live with us. This is why we encourage our residents to roll up their sleeves and get stuck in whenever they can.
From peeling vegetables, kneading bread, mixing scones or helping to decorate cakes, there is always something to do and new recipes to discuss and try out.
We often find that often residents appetites increase when they have been involved in the cooking of their food providing the additional health benefits as well as a sense of purpose that can sometimes be lost.
All of our homes boast beautiful gardens, providing the opportunity for our green-fingered residents to enjoy a bit of gardening when weather permits.
Wherever possible our gardens have easily accessible areas for our residents to enjoy and raised beds to make it easier for them to remain hands-on and tend the plants themselves.
Where this is not possible we encourage the planting of seeds on window sills and every home has a large selection of houseplants that can be easily looked after by those that are less mobile.
Residents can enjoy visits to local garden centres where they can choose their own plants and tools to truly make the gardens their own.
Games and Quizzes
Keeping our brains active through play is also a great way to build friendships with other residents. A bit of harmless competition also adds to the fun with some games lasting days.
Our regular quizzes are a great way to reminisce and stimulate memories with topics ranging from 1980's Football to Film and Television.
Some of the favourite games played in our homes are:
- Jigsaw puzzles
We always welcome learning a new game too, so bring your suggestions along!
Music is a huge part of life in our homes and singing is one of the ways we get together to improve our well-being, memory and mood.
Whether it is an impromptu sing-a-long to the radio or a more formal session provided by an external musician, we provide regular musical activities in all our homes.
Singing and music sessions help residents express themselves, feel positive and make new friends whilst being supported by our skilled, compassionate and experienced staff.
We welcome local school choirs, performers and volunteers to all of our homes.
Fitness and Exercises
Whether it is a walk around the garden or one of our regular keep fit sessions, we believe a healthy body leads to a healthy mind, stimulating blood flow and helping to keep joints and muscles supple and promoting movement and independence.
Our sessions are led by both qualified external providers and our own trained activities coordinators. This ensures that every individuals' needs and capabilities are considered and that by working with physiotherapists and specialists, we can provide tailor-made programmes that benefit everyone.
We believe that sports should be accessible to everyone and enjoy regular Armchair Sport sessions in all our homes.
Firm favourites are:
- Armchair Football
- Armchair Skittles
- Armchair Quoits
- Armchair Tennis and
- Armchair Golf
These sessions have taken our favourite sports and adapted them to make them enjoyable by all. These are enjoyed regularly either inside or, when weather permits, outside in the garden.
